My Story
About Marit Spilde
I am a Norwegian figurative artist who has been drawing since I was three years old. After many years without art - while building a life as a nurse, mother and later single mother - I found my way back to painting around 2009. What started as small sketches developed into an artistry characterized by movement, emotions and strong human expressions.
I am inspired by contrasts: rawness and poetry, strength and vulnerability, dream and reality. That is probably why I am drawn to hip-hop, street art, dance, jazz and forms of expression that vibrate with energy and intensity.
My paintings are figurative, most often painted in acrylic, built up layer by layer to create depth, pulse and presence. I try to capture what lies between the lines - the moment, the feeling, the person behind the expression.
Through my art, I want to visualize what we often only sense: the struggle, the passion, the longing and the strength we all carry. And the beauty!
